Ford’s call for driverless regulations is not just about Tesla-It’s a desperate and woefully incomplete attempt to stop the bleeding

The article — Ford CEO says US needs to regulate automated driving systems

So. . . all of a sudden an OEM wants the feds to hurry up, impose themselves on them and slow down their technological advancements? The truth is this is just another symptom of the industries collapse and desperation to save it by any other methods than fixing the root cause. The mergers, panic SPACs and IPOs, buyouts and bankruptcies have not done the trick. Let’s now as the regulators to tame the wild failing west and save these folks from themselves by trying to reset the safety and hype bar. (Next thing you know the industry will blame the collapse on the government for not regulating them fast enough.)

Sure, Tesla is the black sheep. But that’s in a family of slightly less black sheep. Tesla is the most egregious but at its core it uses the same untenable and reckless approach as the rest. It relies on the real-world, especially “safety driving” and gaming- based simulation. Versus proper simulation from aerospace/DoD that is informed and validated by the real-world. Without that paradigm shift every Av maker could join forces and they would still not be able to Marshall the time, funds, or human Guinea pig lives to get near L4.

There is one government entity that gets this and could help solve this. It’s DoT VOICES. Volunteer for their program and actually fix the problem.
