Tesla using Human Guinea Pigs to Test Autopilot Traffic Light and Stop Sign Development — What Could Go Wrong?

It’s bad enough that the echo chamber thinks the best or only way to develop and test this technology is through the use of public shadow and safety driving. That the lives that have been lost and will be lost, by the thousands eventually, are necessary. As I have said this is all a counterproductive, reckless and avoidable myth. (which I explain in my articles below.) But now we have human Guinea pigs testing and training the system to handle stop lights and signs. And only a subset of those.

Tesla mentions some areas of concern in a list they provide

  • Railroad crossings
  • Keep-out zones
  • Toll booths
  • Crosswalk systems
  • Yield signs or temporary traffic lights and stop signs (such as at construction areas)
  • Miscellaneous traffic U-turn lights, bicycle and pedestrian crossing lights, lane availability lights, etc.
  • Furthermore, while the feature aims to stop at a red light, they require input from the driver to go through green lights. Tesla explains that the vehicle will require permission from the driver to cross traffic lights even if they are green.

Lance Elliott mentions some issues in his Forbes article — (Lance stops way short because he also believes public shadow/safety driving is tenable and the lives that are and will be lost using it are necessary.)

Beyond this how is Tesla going to handle

· Funeral processions

· Vehicles that move forward at Stop signs out of order

· What if the lights are out?

· Vehicles stopped before Tesla detected them — Tesla’s lack the ability to properly detect stationary or crossing objects. Several people have died so far due to this. This is due to their not having LiDAR or a camera/radar system that can resolve that. They si8mply cannot reliably discern object lateral position or distance unless it is moving toward or away from them.

Do you see the lunacy here? Humans have a hard enough time regaining proper situational awareness in critical scenarios as it is. Now they have to remember all the scenarios this is SUPPOSED to work and when it is not? This will be not end well at all. And it is complete avoidable if DoD simulation technology is used. Unlike gaming-based technology used now, it can create a legitimate real-world digital twin. Not a fake and incomplete one.

My company is Dactle

We are building an aerospace/DoD/FAA level D, full L4/5 simulation-based testing and AI system with an end-state scenario matrix to address several of the critical issues in the AV/OEM industry I mentioned in my articles below. This includes replacing 99.9% of public shadow and safety driving. As well as dealing with significant real-time, model fidelity and loading/scaling issues caused by using gaming engines and other architectures. (Issues Unity will confirm. We are now working together. We are also working with UAV companies). If not remedied these issues will lead to false confidence and performance differences between what the Plan believes will happen and what actually happens. If someone would like to see a demo or discuss this further please let me know.
