We need a USDOT VOICES Vaccine against the Autonomous Vehicle Industry

This is an insidious disease. Where the “cure” is far worse than the disease. This is due to the development of the cure requires sacrificing humans as test subjects. And the “cure” will never come to pass because the development method is not viable.

· The disease stems from trying to create a worthwhile cure to eliminate most roadway crashes, injuries, and deaths as well as (supposedly) lowering traffic volume and by thereby lowering pollution and global warming etc

· The epidemiology of the disease is the flawed development and testing methods being used to develop the cure

· Most of the scientists creating the “cure” have little actual experience in the domains required to create the cure — That is caused by another disease caused the Silicon Valley Agile Holiday Express Syndrome (I cover that epidemiology in an article below)

· The (largely needless) lab rats in this case are the very same humans we are trying to save themselves — Not only that but many have to be injured or die to “create” the cure — Problem is that development method is untenable from a time, cost and safety POV — making the injuries and deaths needless (More below)

· The scientists are lying to the public about the progress of their “cure”, and in many cases saying they have the cure, by providing cherry picked data and no actual proof it is adequately effective (and not providing data on all tested scenarios disengagements or root causes) — To make matters worse they are severely limiting the effects of the disease (by limiting the Operational Design Domains) to make it look like the whole disease is cured — And worse of all they are scrambling to cash in through IPOs and SPACs before everyone figures this out

· NHTSA, who is this analogy are the FDA, not only have no independent testable safety or performance criteria, they believe establishing them will hamper development — And they trust the scientists to self-regulate — To create their own testing criteria and self-certify

· The actual cure is USDOT VOICES and the paradigm shifting approach the recommend — VOICES believes the development method is untenable from a time, cost and safety POV. And the simulation technology being used is not adequate — This is what I have been saying for over 3 years — The cure involves using proper simulation that is informed and validated by the real-world for development as well as to prove the systems are capable. This is how we can create an actual cure and build trust in it. (More below)
