In the past month or so Cruise has been in the press quite a bit regarding several issues.

They had 60 vehicles stalled in the streets as they were caught lying about being “driverless” when their remote operated systems lost their network connection

They have whistleblower who says they operate recklessly and are unsafe

They were involved in a crash where it appears they bear at least some responsibility’

They are desperately trying to enter new markets and the press is asking if they will ever make money

Keep in mind they still refuse to provide any meaningful proof of their actual capabilities.

While it seems Cruise is in deep trouble, please do not think this is isolated to them. Every AV maker who relies on AI/ML, the real-world and gaming-based simulation will experience the same and worse.

Below are a couple articles that explain my POV in more detail.

Cruise, like Waymo, now says they are driverless with no proof, nor any comment on Waymo’s CA DMV lawsuit to avoid providing safety data

The EU proposes a driverless driver’s test that is pretty good — Waymo, Cruise, Gatik etc would fail it

Waymo and Cruise should prove their systems are legitimately L4
